Case Studies & Testimonials

Case Studies:

  • Sandpiper Ltd, Farnborough, England

Restructured Sandpiper Ltd, a contract carpet supplier with clients such as Compass plc, Trust House Forte, Holiday Inn and Macdonald Hotels, from a family-run £3m t/o Company into a corporate entity with a real potential for growth to £10m t/o within 5 years, working alongside existing board members, we addressed the problems of having an imbalance of clients with one customer making up more than 80%, inappropriate and excess sales staff, Lack of co-ordination between manufacturers and end users. We also drew up and implemented the first stage of a ten year development plan which allowed for a logical and ordered exit strategy to be included for the Chairman.

  • Almeda Textile Manufacturing Limited, Tigray, Ethiopia

Worked with an Ethiopian Co-operative funded by the World Bank to bring textile manufacturing qualities up to EU standards to enable them to take advantage of the zero quotas and zero duties available to emerging third world manufacturers and apply for ISO certification. Many visits to Addis Ababa and North Ethiopia during difficult political and military situations did not stop us from completing a detailed report and implementing the first stage of a development plan for future security and growth within this market sector. Introducing new clients such as IKEA and several Swiss textile companies. Also introducing the manufacturers of towelling products to the various European prison and medical services brokering a number of successful deals.

  • Emtex Carpet Manufacturing Company Limited, Dubai, UAE

Involved in a new Arab funded carpet manufacturing operation in Dubai from early feasibility studies, attracting local investors, through to plant commissioning and recruitment of all management and staff, handing over the unit with a turnover of US$5m within 24 months of start up and over 150 expatriate employees. Negotiated with all government departments and set up an export network of sales agents throughout the Gulf and Europe.

Testimonials:

“Paul has a knack of seeing issues very clearly and being quite clear about the options available. He wastes little time in getting to the issues that will make a difference.”

“I found Paul's honest approach to be very refreshing. Equally there is nowhere to hide when Paul is asking the questions, which means he really gets to know you and your business. This enables him to give you effective feedback which results in 'real' business planning. I would recommend Paul to any business.”

“When we started our business we had a very clear vision of how it was going to be and who our target market was. Various training courses and demand from clients began pushing us into other areas and a year later we found we were running in several different directions and not knowing how or whether to take the leap into one area or to continue trying to cover them all, With neither the clear vision nor the expertise to decide for ourselves we asked Strategy Matrix for help.
Paul Haley spent a day with us during which, he assisted us in pulling our business apart and analysing where we were now, where we wanted to be in five years and which market was going to get us there. Strategy Matrix then put a plan together for us as to how we could achieve this. A year later we are still working to this plan, it’s still relevant to our business and we really know where we are heading.
Paul provided regular support and encouragement to move us forward when we are losing motivation. My only regret is that I didn’t seek advice from Paul before we set up our business. It would have saved us a lot of time and money and our business would be in a far better place at this stage if we had. The best advice I could give to anyone thinking about setting up a new business, and I stress the word thinking: is to sit down with Paul and set up your strategy while it is still an idea. This will ensure you really are aiming at the profitable market. You’ll only have to do your literature once and your image will be spot on from the work go.”
